Turn 32

Middex Armory: Klos 4th, 350AC, 0951
 Experience:  I went through the game turn by turn and assigned experience points.  Very similar to the live game, except I don’t have to try to remember anything while half asleep: Its all in print!  From the pre-turns up to turn 31 your totals are the following:
  • Arvak 46 XP  (combat, planar portal use, and role playing largest components)
  • Phallon 36 XP  (proportionally less from combat – shroom 1 was tortured by you for many many low points of damage, good bonus from time distortion use)
  • Ragnor 40 XP  (larger combat proportion due to wiping out some shrooms single-handedly or doing the majority of damage)
  • Zeebo 43 XP  (most from research or deduction, bonus for role playing during private posts)

I’ll update your XP totals on your character sheets.  You may be able to spend them unless its for a skill that needs training, etc.

You are all currently in the security monitoring room.  Warm air is being sucked out due to the open front door, yet a heating vent is starting to pump warm air in.  The door panel will allow you to close and lock the door to the room.  Story-time is now over, and the kids seem to be feeling better.  Meyer starts to snore.  No sounds come from the outside.

Turn 31

Arvak and Zeebo are inside the dim-lit room.  Phallon has just walked up to the entrance.  Ragnor is just behind, checking his equipment.

Arvak can now see that the true man is a programmer wearing a set of olive drab fatigues, with a Newbie rank patch (single chevron), and a set of sheath armor over that.  The helmet to the armor is sitting on the floor next to Arvak, and a combat shotgun (same model as Ragnor’s) is on the floor next to the man.  He is now turning slowly around in an office chair to see who is coming into the room.  He is dirty, pale, and thin.    He looks at Arvak and weakly says “Any others make it?”  A child starts to cry from a crate/bed in the northwest corner.

Turn 30

Middex Armory: Klos 4th, 350AC, 0942

Phallon and Ragnor (with weapons fully loaded) cautiously move up to the bloody door, and peer through.  Inside is the room of horror which Phallon knows a little too well.  Ragnor realizes this is the source of the horrible death-like smell, which is now overpowering.  The description again from scene 24, err, I mean turn 3:

A 5 x 4 meter room that reeks of rotten decaying bodies.  There is a boot-high layer of shredded ooze of what used to be living beings.  It looks like a pulpy red, brown, gray and black mass of tissue braising in fluids and clotted blood.  The walls and ceiling are splattered with streaks of blood and dried chunks of tissue.  Blood is even coating the overhead glow panels, so the room is lit by an evil red light.  The goo overflows a little into the ex-office room, but is held in check by the general clot.  Streaks of blood on the floor show that the shrooms regularly moved in and out of this room.

Ragnor needs to make a MS save to not be in horror/feel overwhelming nausea (he’s used to fresh blood, but this is just putrid!)  Rank 7 +1MS = column 8:  80 6 = green.  Ok, he can deal.  Phallon previously made the save as well.  Doesn’t mean either of them want to swim in it, though.

Arvak hits the open button on the door.  Whoosh it slides to the side revealing a triangular room about 5 meters across.  There are several metal crates right up against the doorway, although they are only a meter high, so he can look over them.  The room is dimly lit from computer moniters and soft glow panels along a counter on the far wall.  Arvak can see what looks like a human sitting in a chair with his back to him, who is facing Dr. Zeebo.  Zeebo is searching through his own pockets and talking to him.  Arvak can see some other crates and dirty mattresses on the floor.  Some human children are lying on one, but are starting to fidget and wake up.

What would you like to do?

Turn 29

Phallon moves back to the south wall.  While moving, Arvak gets to make his melee attack first.

He brings the hammer down (16): 9 9 = red.  BD14-4ac = 10×5 =50 points of damage.  Squish.  Its very dead.

Phallon and Ragnor get into position, but see that the shroom is gone and are able to hold their fire.

Combat over.  Besides the dead shrooms, there is a lot of wrecked furniture and debris strewn around the room (which you haven’t looked at closely yet).  No sign of Dr. Zeebo.

Turn 28

Arvak steps down from the desk, strides over towards Shroom 3 and swings his massive hammer at it (16): 2 3 = white.

Phallon backpedals as Shroom 2 advances on him.  He fires his pistol (8): 50 1 = white.

Shroom 2 attacks Phallon with his blades(11): 60 6 = blue +1RF = green.  BD 10-4ac = 6×2 = 12 points of damage.  He is down to 117 hp.

Shroom 3 attacks Zeebo (11): 90 9 = red.  Zeebo’s displacement (9): 9 1 = yellow.  He vanishes in a poof of in-rushing air.  (Todd, see Zeebo’s Turn 28 post)

Ragnor fires his shotgun at Shroom 2 (20): 80 8 = orange.  BD 18-4ac = 14×4 = 56 points of damage.  Shroom 2 is slaughtered, bits of mushroom are splattered all over the desk.

Initiatives:

  • Phallon: 0 = automatic win
  • Arvak: 9 +1 = 10
  • Shroom: 2
  • Ragnor: 1 = automatic loss

What now?

Turn 27

Phallon dodges backwards, away from shroom 2 (8): 40 8 = white.  Fear generation (14): 10 1 = white.

Shroom 2 attacks phallon (a bull-rushing lawn-mower attack col 11): 00 7 = white.

Ragnor fires his shotgun at shroom 2 (20): 10 0 = white.

Shroom 1 wheels around the corner and attacks Ragnor (11): 00 1 = black.  Result?

  • 1-2 attacks other shroom
  • 3 knocks blade on floor and damages self
  • 4 skids out on turn and slams into desk (which Arvak is standing on)
  • 5 drives into Ragnor’s errant shotgun blast
  • 6 nothing

3.  CN save to avoid breaking off blade (10): 70 1 = blue.  However the shroom takes its own base damage of 10.  After being burned with sunray hands, blasted with a shotgun, and twice hit with mental blast, it only had 4hp left.  The impact cracks/ruptures its central axis-stalk and it dies sitting in front of Ragnor.

Shroom 3 wheels around the east side of the room and attacks Dr. Zeebo (11): 10 7 = white.

Zeebo didn’t declare any action for the turn.  Perhaps he froze up with his bow shot, agonizing over whether to fire at the shrooms in view, versus the one obviously coming around the corner at him.  Or perhaps he was searching in his quiver saying “black arrow, you have never failed me, and I have always recovered you, where the fuck are you?!”.  Or perhaps he was flexing his muscles and holding his bow up to the light and the choir of angels: aaaaaaahhhhhhh  silver bow!  siiiilver bowww!!, Silverrrr BOWWWWWWWW!!!!!  Either way, he does nothing useful this turn.  After previously displacing from combats and being generally unreliable in fights, the sound which sums up his companions feelings is this: (please click to play the haunting zeebo-theme )

Arvak hurls a metal spike at shroom 3 (13): 6 8 = green.  BD 10 – 4ac = 6 x 2 = 12 points of damage.  It jerks backwards a little with the impact, but keeps on attacking.

  • Arvak: 0 = automatic win
  • Phallon: 6 + 2 = 8
  • Shrooms: 7
  • Ragnor: 2 + 2 = 4.  tie breaker 9
  • Zeebo: 2 + 2 = 4.  tie breaker 4

Turn 26

Zeebo shifts a bit, and covers the room with his bow.

Arvak moves over to a desk and climbs up.  He has to be deliberate about his movements, as his considerable weight could tip it over, and he has to crouch to not hit his head on the ceiling.

As he is climbing up, Ragnor and Phallon circle the desks and head for the corner.  The southwest section of the room is free of enemies and other hazards.

Suddenly the quiet is broken by the whirrling of shroom blades from the northern area of the room, and the sound of them zipping along the floor, getting louder.  Phallon, Zeebo, and Arvak all see shroom 1 rolling down the middle of the room.  A second shroom tears through a piece of tattered cubicle wall, knocking it up and over itself, and rushes Phallon with its blades humming.  From his new vantage point, Arvak can see a third shroom rushing down the east side of the room (and no other shrooms are hiding behind stuff).  Zeebo (awareness roll on column 8: 6 8 = blue) can hear the third shroom rapidly approaching.

Turn 25

Ragnor and Arvak advance into the room, and head to the left of the door.  Phallon follows them slowly, pistol at the ready.  Zeebo stands at the east side of the doorway, bow ready.  The shrooms have not shown themselves, yet.

Turn 24

Middex Armory: Klos 4th, 350AC, 0940.

Ragnor reloads a shell into his shotgun (clack), and aims at the doorway.

Arvak moves up next to him, hefting a metal spike.

Phallon hops over the desk, and moves up into the doorway.  The two shrooms are no longer in view (must be behind all the desks and garbage).  None of them are spinning their blades, so the room is now fairly quiet.  Most of the heros hear the ringing sound that remains after being close to gunfire.

Zeebo (no action declared) continues to aim his bow at the doorway.
