Turn 141

Middex Armory, Exterior, Klos 4th, 350 AC, 17:15, overcast, gibbous moon

Commander Mensa, standing in snow up to his shins, reaches into the pockets of his fatigues and pulls out some vials of shimmering blue liquid.  “Behold, the cure.  I shall use them, since we are now free of the den of plague.  Doctor, the first goes to you…”    The BioCur is used on Zeebo, and then Phallon (both could have succumbed to a coma within the hour).  The glowing fluid is injected into them, and within minutes, their sickness is lifted!

All of the Programmers file out of the base, and its large armored door slides closed with a low pitched hummmm.

The furniture and other contaminated substances are rendered to ash by the flames, and eventually the fire dies out.

As everyone huddles in the cold, Dedrick X marches up to the group, looking slick in his shiny black coat and hat.  He raises his arms and yells, “Ah-TEN-shun ALL-ah!  Our Presidents-ah of the Akton Alliance-ah, have ordered for all of yas ta follow us to the welcomin’ arms-ah of the community of Conquered-ah!  FOLLOW ME!”

The soldiers of X-Squad trudge forward, walking along their previous path through the snow.  The Programmers, shivering and wide-eyed, follow.  Sergeant Cam-Era holds up his hand, makes a circling motion with his pointer finger, then points forward along the path.  He and his scouts fan out away from the main group and eventually disapear into the snow.

  • The next turns will be “post-turns” summing up larger blocks of time.  Is there anything you would like to do now or along the way to Conquered (mere miles to the south)?

  • Happy New Years!!  [audio:https://gwevolution.netfarious.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/gold_exodus_maintheme_clip.mp3|autostart=yes]  Music still works well for this turn.  I need a library of this sort of thing for the future…

Turn 140

Middex Armory, Armory Entrance, Klos 4th, 350 AC, 17:05, overcast, gibbous moon

With their equipment sterile, albeit wet, our heros stand in front of a crackling fire.  A strange vortex of powdery snow whirls around it, and a fog of smoke hangs suspended above it.  One tendril of that smoke dips down through the flames and then back into the smoky mass above.

And then, Exodus!  [audio:https://gwevolution.netfarious.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/gold_exodus_maintheme_clip.mp3|autostart=yes]  The surviving Programmers emerge from the base, led by Dr. Zeebo.  Each Programmer has a shocked look on their face from the cold, as they are not equipped with winter gear.  Inner Circle member Zelda is walking with Zeebo.  Their casual conversation stops,  she starts shaking and grabbing on to him for warmth (likely mutual as Zeebo is only wearing underclothes and is lecherous anyway).  Commander Mensa sits on his chair, clutching his laptop computer as lower ranked Programmers struggle to push him up the ramp.  Once the chair hits the snow, it bogs down and is unable to move anymore.

“My Kingdom for a road!  Curses, this world is harsh and unforgiving.  Carry my chair, and you, my computer.  I’ll just have to make do for this unhappy moment!”  Some very unhappy lower ranked Programmers pick up Mensa’s stuff, as he huffs and puffs and trudges through the snow.  As the Programmers file out, Seargent Dedrick X climbs out of his foxhole and approaches everyone.  The rest of the soldiers keep guard, although their attention is mostly on the Programmers.

Merry Christmas!

Zeebo’s Turn 139

Several Programmers grab the back of Mensa’s chair and start pushing him through the vehicle bays.  The rest of the Programmers, carrying various gear, follow.  Zelda walks up to Zeebo, rubs a hand up and down his chest (now only wearing an undershirt?), and says, with an arched eyebrow, “Lead us to safety, hero…”

Turn 139

Middex Armory, Armory Entrance, Klos 4th, 350 AC, 16:55, overcast, gibbous moon

Phallon shreds up a mattress with his vibroblade and gets a bunch of fabric and cottony substance stuffed under the furniture.  Arvak lights up the flare, its red glow making a steady hissss across the snowy plains.  Phallons candle lights up shortly afterwards.

With the contaminated debris piled strategically, a nearly non-extinguishable s0urce of fire, and the wind currents controlled, the pile is soon crackling with flames.  Every soldier (each huddling in a cold snowy foxhole) is looking at the fire.  Arvak’s red cloak is on the top of the pile, and will light up shortly.

What now?  Will you burn any other clothing, or soak them in the virolyze?  Any other actions, or are you just standing near a soon to be warm crackling fire?

Zeebo’s Turn 138A

GM’s note:  your character would have sterilized his boots, either by wiping them down or soaking them, before entering the base again.  I figured soaking would be more thorough, so I just had Zeebo do it, rather than waste a week asking about it…

Zeebo heads back through the base.  Wow, its freaking cold outside without all the warm clothing.  As he heads deeper into the base, the goosebumps go away and all is warm and rosy.  Pity this place is so dangerous, it would be VERY comfortable to spend a winter here.  Its going to suck (both for you and the Programmers) to have to come back out into the cold.  Extra uniforms, clothing, and blankets are boxed up in the storage room.  ARgh, why does that room have to be infected and quarrantined?

Zeebo makes it back to the northeast vehicle bay, where all the Programmers are waiting.  Mensa sits in the wheeled chair, tapping away at his laptop.  Zelda is back on her feet and has fixed the plastic pointy ears back on her head.  The other Programmers are also alert and standing or at the ready.  Many of them are now hefting ancient weaponry (assault rifles, mini-missile launchers, etc).  The others are carrying some computers, cables, etc.

What now?

Turn 138

Middex Armory, Armory Entrance, Klos 4th, 350 AC, 16:50, overcast, gibbous moon

Ragnor talks to the lex soldiers (Rowena and Bren) about helping to enhance and contain the fire with their air current control mutations.  Bren has a sneer-like smile, and says, “Hurmm!  Usually we wanna get rid of the smoke.  I’ll try creating a dead zone to keep the badland winds from interfering, and gorgeous here (leers at Rowena) can create a circular airflow to fan the flames.”  Rowena sighs wearily.

As Zeebo starts stripping off his trenchcoat, Arvak, Phallon, and Ragnor light up the fire using their matches and lighter.  Firebuilding rolls: Arvak (8): 3 4 = white.  Phallon (6 due to sickness): 40 2 = white.  Ragnor (9): 00 8 = white.  Hmmm, even though the air currents are keeping the matches from blowing out, the materials just aren’t starting well enough to get the fire going.

Sgt. Cam-Era says, “We have to start fires out here all the time!  I think you need more kindling under those heavy desks.  I’d rip up that red fabric (points to the cloak) and stuff it underneath.  And we can go get you some poddle chips from that field (points west towards a snowy expanse near the river), if you need them.”

There’s now a pile of “infected clothing” forming.  So far it consists of Zeebo’s warm winter clothing, and his trenchcoat.  Zeebo, now wearing light underclothing and boots, steps into the mop bucket, then gets out and heads back into the base, his wet boots squeeking and squishing along the floor.  Arvak, Phallon, and Ragnor can wipe down their armor and leather with the mop bucket virolyze.  Your clothing (Phallon’s great trenchcoat, etc) can be soaked in the bucket, although it would then be cold and wet (and maybe frozen soon) outside.

What now?

Turn 137

Middex Armory, Armory Entrance, Klos 4th, 350 AC, 16:39, overcast, gibbous moon

Zeebo and Phallon are in favor of sealing the contaminated debris into the room of rendering.  Arvak and Ragnor want to burn them outside.  What now?

The soldiers are looking anxious to spring into action, or maybe they just want to get moving to stay warm.

Game Ideas

I am going to continue the gamma world game after this adventure concludes.  Thus, it will just flow to the next events…

Greg, should I just keep posting indefinately, or should we eventually start a second site.

Two new ideas I have.  Hmm, that was kind of Yoda.  One: I kept an unfinished “draft post” where I kept track of all the items your characters gave away or dropped, etc.  I think I’ll post this for all of you to see, under the “players” tab.

Two: After trying to figure out a zillion times what mutations Phallon has available, and when Arvak can use “planar portal” again, I’m going to post this info, also under “players” tab.  It’ll be so much easier.  I won’t have to scan through months of posts figuring out when “Fear Generation” is available.  And Matt Rounds isn’t here to use that info against you!  Death to the King!!!!

Please give your input to the previous turn so we can move on…

Turn 136

Middex Armory, Armory Entrance, Klos 4th, 350 AC, 16:38

Ragnor and Phallon stand around in the entry room, doing nothing.

Arvak and Zeebo stand out in the cold air.  The sun is low on the horizon to the west, and sunset will occur in the next hour or two.  The base sterilization/quarrantine seems nearly complete: infected rooms have been locked, and the way out of the base has been sterilized with the following exceptions:

  1. There is a stack of broken furniture and debris in the entry room which could be contaminated
  2. Arvak has put contaminated items in a crate.  Technically out of the way, but the crate could easily be opened.

Would you like to do anything with these items?  What is your next step?
