The sun is getting low in the sky to the west (your left), yet its orange-yellow rays gleam off the snow. The chowzer moves ahead in quick effortless bursts, between which it waits for your shuffling group to catch up. You all head up a slight hill, and find yourselves on the top of a low ridge. The ridge continues along to the east and ascends up to a hilltop, but the chowzer sits down here and points to the north. “Cheeek’k eh eh ep!”
Squinting and looking north, you can see the remainder of your foes. The chowzers are on the east side of the river, the hoops on the west. Both groups are heading north along the river. (Note: the hill to the northeast in the following sketch is about 3 miles away)
